What exactly is an engagement session? An engagement session is a portrait session with you and your fiancé typically after you become engaged and before you get married:) A full session usually will last anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours and can take place at one location (such as Longwood Gardens) or multiple locations in one general area (such as walking around the Navy Yard & FDR Park). You can get dressed up, stay casual or combine the efforts by bringing a different look to change into half way through.

The big question is should you include an engagement session or not?!?! Here is why I suggest having one. They give us a chance to work together and get to know one another before the big day which is nice all the way around.  Some clients book with me over a year out from their wedding date so its nice to get together at some point beforehand. You also walk away with some really fun pictures in a more laid back setting. This also give you an option to use a location you may not be able to visit on the wedding day.  I’ve had couple’s shoot in the city because they are getting married down the shore…and vice versa!

And suggesting an engagement shoot is coming from a person who hates getting her picture taken (this girl right here!). If these reasons don’t make sense to you than don’t feel pressured to book one! With weddings certain things become trendy and couples feel pressured to incorporate them because it’s the thing to do…I couldn’t hate this more.  Do one, don’t do one…but make the decision that best suits you!  Don’t worry about the details, I can help you personalize your session with choosing the right location & time. I also encourage inclusion of your fur-babies, adding any unique activities that help showcase you and your partner’s interests and hobbies or suggesting taking a stroll through your favorite part of the city, maybe stopping for a drink on the way:)

Whatever it is I always make sure we have a good time!  Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, xoxo
